LONDON MARKETS. HIGH COMMISSIONER’S REPORT. The High Commissioner cabled, under date February 6(;h: (Note: quotations unless otherwise specified aie average market prices on spot.) Mutton: Market firm, with improved demand especially for light, weights. Canterbury 5 5-Sd, heavy weights did; North Island did. Lambs: Gccd demand continues, prices are firmer on account of difficulty in obtaining supplies owing to delay in discharge. Canterbury supplies are nearly exhausted. Quotations nominal. Canterbury G 7-Bd, other than Canterbury 7jd. Beef: Market very firm, the stocks of New Zealand on hand are light. Hinds 5 3-Bd, fores 5 13-16 d. Of chilled there is only small supply. Hinds 7Jd, feres G 1-Sd.
Butter: Market is quieter and prices are easier. Danish, slow, 142/ to 146/; Mew Zealand 13S to 140/; unsalted occasionally 142/; Australian 134/ to 138/; Siberian no arrivals; Argentine quiet, 134/ to 136/. Cheese: Market firm, prices continue to advance. It is stated that supplies do not meet requirements on account of abnormal demand. Market advancing steadily. Canadian, firm, white coloured, 88/ to 90/; New Zealand, market firm with good demand, white coloured 86/ to 88/. It is estimated that Canadian cheese stocks at London, Liverpool and Bristol on the 2nd February were 81,000 boxes, against 123,000 last year. New Zealand and Australian cheese stocks at London and Bristol on 2nd February were
22,701 crates as against 12,700 last year. Heron: The market is active, with S'ccd demand. Stocks from New Zealand are small. New Zealand, good fair Li'S 10/; fair £2O 10/; fair current Manilla £2O. Forward shipments: New Zealand good fair £23; lair £26; fair current Manilla £3O to £3O 10/. The output firm. Manilla lor the week was 18,000 bales. Wheal: Market firm, price continues to advance, quotations nominal. Canadian 64/; American 63/; Argentine 63/. Oats: Market firm, but demand only moderate. New Zealand Gartens 34/; Argentine 31/. ■ Wool: The wool sales closed with a. vary strong market, the prices obtained being- the best for Hie series. The supply fails short of the demand. Americans were operating freely in Merinos. France and Italy were again buying and nothing was held over. The average for medium crossbreds of all grades was 1/2 to 1/4; aesrse crossbreds, all grades, 1/1 to 1/3; superior Merinos .1/ to 1/2; medium 1 Oil to 1/; inferior Sd to lOd.

Imports for January decreased in value by £604,003; experts £19,557,* 573; re-exports £2,701,473. compared with the previous January. Rabbits; Market firm: prices unchanged. New Zealand Meat: Sheep, Canterbury, firm and unchanged. Light,and medium 5 SS-d. North Island 5 7-16 d, best brands 5Lb Beef, fores 5 13-lGd, hinds 6 3-S«. Australian Meat; Sheep, first- qcality 5 1-Sd. Lambs, best quality Old, fair inferior Gd. Beef, lores, none offering; hinds Gd. Argentine Meat: Chilled beef, fores 5 1-Scl, hinds 7;d. Other meats unchanged. Wheat: Market quiet and firm, advices of general rains in the Argentine counteracting the larger shipment. Bumper wheat harvests hi India are described as absolutely certain. The quantity of wheat and flour afloat for the United Kingdom is 2,060,000 qrs f and for the Continent c f Europe 2,230,000qr5. Atlantic shipments, G2S,oooqrs; Pacific, 70,000. The total shipments to Europe for the week amounted to 1,230,000qr5, including' from India ll,oooqrs, and from the Argentine 230,000. Wool: The wool sales have closed. There was well-sustained competition ap firm prices for all sorts. Merinos generally were 10 per cent, above December prices, and crossbreds fully 5 per cent. The United States have taken 15,500 bales. The following prices were realised for the fleece portions of the New Zealand clips named; White Reck, top price 15M1, average 14 5-Bdffi Toldur, 14id and I4d; Nchanga, 15d and 14 5-8. Catalogued to Friday, 130,808 bates; acK*. 125,.731 bales.
HIDE AND SKIN REPORT,
Messrs Dalgety and Company, Ltd., report: After a month’s lapse we submitted a. large catalogue to a full bench of very keen buyers and rises in prices were the order of the day Present prices are gradually getting nearer the famine margin, and under existing conditions there appears the possibility of further rises in the market as it is safe to presume that the buyers’ orders will net be tilled with the quantities coming forward. We quote a rise of from id to id for good crossbred and halfbred sheepskins, and even mere for dead and damaged lamb skins. Hides sold at ‘’bumper” prices, with a rise of from id to id for all weights of sound ox and cow. Calfskins were on a par with last sale rates. Tallow is firmer and we got 25/ per cw( for some good shipping lines. The range of prices was as follows: Sheepskins: Halfbred lOd, crossbred thfd (o 10.\d, med coarse crossbred 9id to KUI, short to half wools 6td to Sd, dead and damaged crossbred 6:;d to Bid, interior and badly damaged 4d to 7”d, lambs Bid to 9id, damp salted and green ?./8 to G/, pelts salted and green 1/6 to 3/, lambs salted 3/ to 4/5 pelts 3iid to 6.id
