A THIRSTY BURGLAR.
AND A "'LOT THAT FAILED. Some thirsty individual, at least it is presumed he had a thirst, attempted yesterday to force an entrance into a well-kncwn Taihape building, a building situate in Moa-street and renowned for its export of Tiki beverages. The ■ incident occurred in this wtiy r , and at the stilly hour of 3 a.m. The manager of the bottling department, who happened to be on the night shift on this occasion, was busily engaged with his task when he was startled by a peculiar, mysterious noise emanating from the front. Nothing loth, he made on tip-toe towards the sound, bent on closer investigation, which elicited the fact that someone was meddling with the lock of a front door. “It’s a burglar, and he’s mine!” thought the manager as ho prepared for the fray. But the visitor was far too wary a customer to be caught, and decamped prsoil)Stately jvt the fi'rst faint alarm.
The disturber hastily burst open the doer, but just in time to spy a dark figure disappearing - hurriedly 'round the corner. He gave chase, but on reaching the abovernentioned corner the marauder had disappeared into the darkness, leaving no trace whatever of his identity.
