Nothing loth, he made on tip-toe towards the sound, bent on closer investigation, which elicited the fact that someone was meddling with the lock of a front door. “It’s a burglar, and he’s mine!” thought the manager as ho prepared for the fray. But the visitor was far too wary a customer to be caught, and decamped prsoil)Stately jvt the fi'rst faint alarm.

The disturber hastily burst open the doer, but just in time to spy a dark figure disappearing - hurriedly 'round the corner. He gave chase, but on reaching the abovernentioned corner the marauder had disappeared into the darkness, leaving no trace whatever of his identity.
