SATISFACTORY PROGRESS
TRENCHES MINED AND CAPTURED (Reed. 9.15 a.m.) PARIS, Feb. 5. A communique states: We mined trenches westward of Arras and Lille Road, and the occupants were either killed or captured; we also recovered lest trenches at Bagatelle and pro grossed beyond them. SIX HUNDRED MASSED GUNS. ASSAULT RUSSIAN POSITION. WITH POISONOUS SHELLS. (Reed 12.15 p.)m. PETROGRAD, Feb. 5. The Germans, for two days and nights, swept Russian positions at Bcrjimoff with six hundred massed guns. Many shells .emptied suffocating gases, covering the trenches with poisonous pall, but the Russians splen didly dug in and afterwards charged fifty .quick-firers with irresistible impetuosity, capturing fourteen guns.
