The Germans, for two days and nights, swept Russian positions at Bcrjimoff with six hundred massed guns. Many shells .emptied suffocating gases, covering the trenches with poisonous pall, but the Russians splen didly dug in and afterwards charged fifty .quick-firers with irresistible impetuosity, capturing fourteen guns.
