PICTURE THEATRES.
The great Gaumont star production, “When Lions Escape,” proved eminently successful on the occasion of its first presentation in Taihape at the Station Street Theatre last night. A woman lion tamer, married to a banker, still keeps her animals and gives a yearly entertainment. On one of these occasions two explorers are present, one, a card sharper, of the worst kind. This fellow tries his tricks,but was caught by the banker. Later in the evening the second explorer receives a stroke which leaves him liable to suggestion. His comrade makes use of this to revengte himself on the banker. He suggests to the invalid that he bind the banker and let the ! lions loose. The invalid obeys the command with the result that numerous exciting incidents are unfolded in the villain of the drama being hoisted with his own petard. ' The fine Kalom masterpece, “Quicksands/’ was well received at the Three Stars last night, being a drama of mighty power and thrilling Interest depicting episodes in the wilds of th© Phillipines. The oilier drama, “The Mexican Gambler,” and the delightful romance. “Proposal Deferred,” were both well appreciated while a Keystone comedy. “When Ruben Fooled the Bandits,” created the usual amount of merriment,
