* * FEATHERS ’ ’ COMPETITION. Another interesting <l Feathers” match was played yesterday afternoon, the competing teams being Hesketh, Cook, James,McKenzie (s) (defenders), and Evans, Drayton, Neagle, Boyd (s) challengers. McKenzie gained a lead of five in -the first three heads, blit Boyd scored on the next four, bringing his score to 13. The next three heads went to McKenzie, then Boyd scored ~n p , McKenzie two and Boyd two leaving the scores on the 13th head, McKenzie IS, Boyd 16. At the end of the next five heads . MceKnzie was leading by three, and was lying one on the IStn Inyd ip'v.fl-e but McKenzie witht the last bowl. .The board now showed McKenzie 20 and Boyd 17 with one head to play. Excitement was intense when oßyd lay five but McKenzie with the last bowl drew the shot and so wo® the day. ; / 21—17. ORDINARY DRAW. The following ordinary draws were also played: McLanglilan, latent, Dymoek, Wilson (s), 30 v. Jones, Darvlll, Powell, Wrightson (s), 20 (25 heads); Johnson, Spence (s) 25 v. Green, Tarnam (s) 21. A delicious afternoon tea w,as provided bv Mesdames Jones, Powell and Wrightson, FATAL MINE ACCIDENT. WAIHI, This Day. While a miner named Peter Vocasvich, an Austrian, was boring a hole with a drill in the Talisman mine yesterday where work had been left off on December 18, an explosion took place, killing him instantly. It is thought that he struck a “cut-off.” Jehu Me Clear, who was working with him, was severely injured.
