CONSCRIPTION MUST COME.
RAMSEY MACDONALD'S ARGUMENT. LONDON, Jan. 11. Mr. Ramsey Macdonald, leader of the Labour Party, speaking. at Paddington, said the war had provided unanswered arguments in favour of conseription. To-day we were relying on conscriptionist France. We could not enter any alliance again and tell our allies to wait six months before our tr.cops could support them in the trenches. The Allies would not allow them to do so. CARDINAL MERCIER’S ARREST. THE POPE DISSATISFIED. ROME, Jan. 11. The Observatore Romano says reports of Cardinal Mercier’s arrest are net exact, but the Pope is dissatisfied with the German Government’s statements.' The Belgians are displeased with the attitude of the Catholic Press, which refuses to rectify inaccurate German statements. GERMAN ATROCITIES. CIRCULATION OP STORIES. - LONDON, Jan. 11.
