A member of the advance detachment that captured Samoa and who lately returned to New Zealand had the misfortune to receive a bullet in his hip while doing duty on Soames Island. The man’s name is Philip Lennon, and his parents reside at 37 Laurence Street, Newtown, Wellington. It apears that a companion was cleaning a revolver when he accidentally dropped. The trigger struck a stcne and exploded a cartridge, the bullet entering Lennon’s hip-. The sufferer was scut to the hospital for treatment. Prior to the outbreak of war Lennon was an employee of the Petone Railway Workshops. It is recounted that in the fighting near Prcmysl two generate reported to the commander, General R a dice, .Dmitri elf, the Bulgarian now serving with the Russian army, that they were unable to hold out, owing to tin ovnwhelming numbers of the enemy.
