Taihape made a poor showing inH the first innings, being dismissed for 57. fl In the second innings the batsmen be--S| came better acquainted with the bowling|l and put up the tidy score of 150 lor tWcH wickets. Ngaurukehu scored 242 in H their innings, of which R. W. Orton re-S i tired) made 324, Planck, 45, and Led* ■ wood retired, 24 The team battejS B splendidly, but the bowling and field* B ing of the visitors was slightly weak, 9 showing lack of practice. Ngaurukehu I won by .155 runs on the first innings. 9
THE GAME. | Watson and Cameron opened f ox 1 Taihape, Cameron opening by hitting I Holland for 2. Next over Watson wasi clean bowled by Smith, without scoring.! One wicket for 2 runs. Tidswell was. 3 next, and the combination put on 21 fore Cameron was bowled by Smith after scoring 10. Lenihan theiihfaced the bowling, but was caught in the slips off. the first ball. H. Dashwood then faced Smith, but in cutting the second ball he was brilliantly caught by the wicket-keeper. K. Smith hit Smith's iirst ball to the boundary, but was"] bowled by Holland in the next over. W.<l Bashford then joined Tidswell and the I partnership brought the score up to 48 * before Tidswell v. as caught after batt« \ ing well for bis 22. After luncheon ae>j journmeut Schank took the bowling, i scoring 2. Barton was then dismissed without further addition to the score. ■ Maher joined Bashford, the latter be-j ing bowled by Holland after scoring 7. The last man, Smith, joined Maher and scored one befcre Maher was bowled bjf Holland. Total, 57. I). lied wood and R. W. Orton opened for Ngaurakehu to the bowling of Tidswell, six being scored off this over. ! Watson took the next over which re-' suited in three being added to the' score. The bowlers could not touch the j wickets, neither could the changes, K* Smith and Cameron and after the partnership had put on over 100, Ledwoodh retired, batting nicely for his 24. J..; Cresson joined Orton, but after scoring two was caught off Schank behind the, wickets. Holland faced Schank, but hit the first ball into K. Smith, who neatly received it. Palnck faced the bowling and was nearly stumped first ball. The pair brought the score close to 200 before Planck wan caught off Bajgford after making 45. 'S. Smith followe ! and was clean bowled by K. Swith for ! 10. Orton later retired after scoring 124. He gave a brilliant display oc batting and scored fast. He gave several chances which were refused. Steadman put up the nest best score, making 20, being dismissed by Tidswell. Terry" was bowled l.b.w. after making 2, and was followed by Brown, who was run out for three. Spooner made the last, stand but Tidswell captured Downing J s wicket after that batsman had made 4.1 Total, 242. Dashwood and Tidswell opened the second innings ivr Taihape, and brought ' the score to 73 before Dashwood was dismissed after batting well for his 41, Watson joined Tidswell and one century was well passed before Tidswell was caught. Bashford joined Watson, and brought the score to 150 before stumps were drawn. j
