THE MOST EXALTED
An army order was published in Berlin ln November which (as The Times puts t) deserves to be recorded, if only as an example of the literary style oi General Kluck. It runs:His Majesty the Emperor and King bad the graeiousness yesterday to honour the First Army with his Most Exalted presence. iHs Majesty visited yesterday a battle position, and convinced His Most' Exalted Self of the construction of the first battery in the firing lin*. A review of the Grenadier Regiment, Prinz Karl, ended the presence of the Most Exalted War Lord among the troops. The Most Exalted ordered me to express to the First Army his highest appreciation. While performing this order of the Most Exalted. I express my congratulations to the commanding generals and to all troops under them. Forward! —'Von Kluck. On this the "Times" comments: "A few years ago Herr Maximilian Harden delighted the audiences at his lectures with the remark that while God was described as The Exalted, the description 'The Most Exalted' (Allenhochst) was reserved for the German Emperor."
