MEAT FREEZING WORKS.

Farmers, and residents of the town also, as well as propertyowners and tradesmen of this district, are to be congratulated nn the fact that all the shares necessary for the erection of meatfreezing works at Taihape havw been taken up. We are on the threshold of another year,, but what is of incomparably more moment to the people of this district just noAv is, that avc are on the eve of the establishment of the most important institution that v has yet been the distru-t's good fortune to possess. At least, we mean, that promises :o talc t-ne requisite number of shares have been received and recorded, and as they are all from men of standing whose words are their bond, we do not anticipate any on. their account. Of course, no further advance can be made until these, promises are accompanied by the application fee of ten shillings per share. The provisional directors would be committing an illegality in going one step further as the Memorandum of Agreement is definite upon that point. The most important meeting yet held is to take place, in the Taihape Toavii Hall, on Wednesday, the sixth of January; other meetings have boon for preliminary purposes, the one next Wednesday is for taking the great step that will, assure final accomplishment. It is hoped that all promises will be redeemed not later than this meeting, because it is imperative that a start should be made with the erection of the works so that next year's stock may be dealt with, The contractor will need eight months in which to build the works and machinery, and the calling of tenders and the attendant work in connection therewith, will take up at least another three months; so there is really not one week to be lost if freezing is to be commenced' on the first of December, 1915. This is not a rim- when im getfulness of our promises shouicT ,)e allowed to jeopardi.se the a." complishment of that Avhich is going to mean so much to every stock-breeder. Must of the shares have been allotted and it is only a tew-forgetful ones that are holding back the directors from proceeding with the work. The*present season, so far as the farmer is concerned, is a far better one than was ever anticipated when • the proposal to establish .freezing works first found favour iu this district, and there can be no duu T ;f about there being a record succession of good seasons during and following ± war that is a hungry devourer of everything a New Zealand farmer produces. YyV. have no hesitation in saying that avc do not'know of anything that could be done in Taihape that is so likely to raise it into being one of the leading provincial towns of the Dominion as the establishment of freezing Avorks. It is .because avc know Avhat it means to every fanner in the district, that the project has our earnest and most hearty support. We congratulate the provisional directors on the good work they have so far accomplished, but it remains for after years to demonstrate what valuable services they have Rendered to everyone with any interest in the district, and indirectly to the whole -Dominion. We look to the meeting next Wednesday to inaugurate an era of prosperity in this neighbourhood in which every section of the comli.i; nlty wiH participate,
