Nurse Brine left on November 16th, her place being taksn by Nurse Sid.dells. The Taihape District High School breaks up to-day for the summer vacation. At the meeting of the Wanga-nui Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, yesterday, it was reported that in the Taihape Hospital there were 24 patients in the institution during thrmonth. Fifteen were admitted, ten were discharged, and two deaths occurred. Twelve patients remained a,t the end of the month.

The public are reminded of the advisability of posting their Christmas correspondence as early as possible to ensure its being delivered before the holidays. The post-office authorities have an immense amount of mail matter to deal with a day or two before Christmas, and if catalogued and printed matter were posted not late* than the 18th, and cards not later than the. 20th inst., these early postages would materialy assist.

A fine programme awaits patrons at the Three Stars Theatre this evening. The star feature is a splendid picture of wild animal life, entitled "Marvels of Nature." The remaining pictures are "The Master of the Mine" and "The Black Mask" (-dramas), "When Hazel Met the Villain" and "The Soldier and the Dolls" (aomics), "Training Italian Cavalry," and the latest edition of the popular Gaum on t Graphic.

What appears to bo a discovery of great importance—the soldering of ainminium to itself or any other metal — has been made by Mr. W. Ovcrend. a resident of Auckland, and some fine specitmens of his work shown to a pressman, appear to bear cut all that the in ■ ventor claims xor it. The possibility of obtaining a roller for aluminium has been one of th.-: problems of scieii' tists, and if Mr. Overend's diseoxerj will meet their requirements, it is no doubt one of groat value.

The sensational drama, "The Golden Beetle," was much appreciated at tinStation Street Theatre last night. It depicts the startling adventures of an Englishman in the jungles of India, and how, incuring the hatred of a band of fanatics, "The Golden Beetle" clan ho is captured and thrown into a fiin.' geon. Another English hunter in the vicinity hears of his countryman's plight, goes to the rescue, but soon finds himself in the same predicament. Later, the two escape; but are pursued by the "Beetles." The fugitives become faced by a pjrecipice and escape sensationaly by forming a human ladder. They eventually reach England but arc followed by a party of the dreaded band. After exceedingly exciting episodes the villains are at last captured.
