MULLINER V. IVESS. CLAIM FOR £IOOO. £SO AWARDED. The Supreme Court civil action, Francis Mulliner v. Joseph Ivess, a claim for £IOOO damages for alleged indecent assault, drew to a close yesterday, when the jury awarded plaintiff £SO. Mr. Justice Hosking was the presiding judge, Mr. Jackson appeared for the plaintiff, and Sir John Findlay represented defendant. The empanelled jury was composed of the following:— Archibald White-ford (foreman), John Crowley, Ernest Tucker, Thcmas Aitken, James Bruce Lockhart, Sydney Davis, Samuel Banks, George Brown, Samuel Nichol, Herbert James Porter. The case commenced on Tuesday at noon. The assault was alleged to have taken place at the King's Court Hotel, Ohakune, on November 26, 1013. Defendant, who described himself as a newspaper proprietor, vigorously denied the allegations. At the conclusion of the evidence, His Honour reviewed the case at length. The jury was absent for several hours, and eventually returned a verdict for £SO. The question of costs was deferred.

FIRE AT MURCHISON.

NELSON, December 5

This (morning Downies HotfqjP, of which Mr. Moxey i s licensee, Hodgson Score, and Movey's Hall were completely destroyed. The fire commenced at the back of a portion of the hotel. Mr. Bishop, mining inspector, was among the visitors in the hotel. All escaped.

MR. MASSEY AT PARNELIj. AN ENTHUSIASTIC MEETING. AUCKLAND, Dec. 4. Mr. Massey addressed a crowded meeting at Parnell to-night, and received an ovation. At the conclusion of the meeting a motion of thanks and confidence was carried by an overwhelming majority.
