THE AUCKLAND TRAGEDY,
INQUEST ON GAL;DIE

The inquest on Albon George Gaudio, who on November 1-lth shot his wife and then committed suicide, was resumed to-day. Mrs. Gaudin, in her evidence j said that for three years she and her husband had lived unhappily, and consequently she decided to leave him. She returned, taking the child with her, to get some clothing. She rang the door bell, and explained to her husband what she had come for. Her husband said, “All right. Come in!” She was collecting the clothing and whistling as she did so. She could not say why she was whistling. She asked her husband if some wrapping paper she wanted was any use to him. He didn’t answer, but fired seven shots at her. One went through Her hand, and through her arm, and a third entered just below her heart. She ran out of the house scream-
nig. Other evidence wms to the effect that Gaudin was found, dead in the doorwayin a pool of blood, with a revolver in his right hand. A verdict of suicide was returned.
ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES. SUICIDE. AUCKLAND, Dec. 1. Aii inquest was held to-day into the circumstances of the death of Percy Mason, labourer, of Tokomaru Bay, who was found shot through the head in a room of the Imperial Hotel on Sunday morning. Deceased was a man forty years of age, well supplied with money but of absent-minded and taciturn disposition. He had been ten days in the city, and the loss of a dog which he had brought with him seemed to worry him. ■ The report of a revolver heard on Sunday morning alarmed the hotel Inmates, and Mason was found in his room dead. His bed had not been slept in. The Coroner returned a verdict of suicide.
KILLED BY A TRAIN
PALMERSTON N., Dec. I
At about 8 o’clock last night, near Whakaronga, the train from Dunnevirke ran over a man lying on the line. Eight trucks passed over him, and Tit - terally cut him to pieces. Letters found in his pockets showed him to bo a surfaceman residing at Ashhurst, named Patrick O’Connor, and 'no had been on holiday leave at the Feilding races. He had relatives at Dannevirke and Hastings.
SUDDEN DEATH
DUNEDIN, Dec. I
George Ed ward Taylor, an old oi l' man, residing at Awaka, had a bad turn on the Dunedin railway station this morning and expired on the way to the hospital. He had been suffering from heart failure.

WELLINGTON, Dec. 1
William George Smith, aged 54, a labourer, residing at Karori, was found dead in bed on Saturday morning. It is supposed that heart disease was the cause. Robert Jamieson, aged 50, an inmate of the Ohiro Home, was found in Taranaki Street on Friday night. It appeared he had been drinking, and was suffering from chest trouble. He was taken to the Home, where lie died later, ROTORUA DROWNING DISASTER. RECOVERY OF A BODY. ROTORUA, Dec. 1. The body of Herbert Webb, one of the victims of the drowning disaster of November 22nd, was found this afternoon in the lake, half a mile east of where the accident happened. SPORTING. THE AUCKLAND SUMMER MEETING. AUCKLAND, Dec. I. Mullinger was withdrawn from the A.R.C. Railway Handicap at 12.50 today. STATISTICAL. WELLINGTON, Dec. 1. The vital, statistics for Wellington during November compared with November last year, ..ere 1913 being given in parentheses): Births 173 (17(5), marriages 8S (09), deaths 07 (00). Customs revenue collected at the port of Wellington during November totalled £54,539, ns against £57,309 in November, 1913.

At the sale of Donald Fraser's yearling and two-year-old thoroughbreds by Advance and Martello, there was a large atendance of buyers from all parts of the Dominion. There was good competition.
