First Flight and Don Francisco covered a circle the reverse way on the grass this morning. The former, who locks in capital trim, experienced little difficulty in holding his stable companion safe throughout. Den Francisco walked eft sore nicer his gallop, which probably accounted lor his poor showing. The two-year olds Flying Start and Adjutant dashed over six furlongs the reverse way. The former, who is coming on nicely, showed to the most advantage. Adjutant lightened up considerably during Cup Week, and is not yet himself again. Camulus and Banksia sprinted five furlongs the reverse way, there being little to choose between the pair at the finish, although the former does not appear to gallop with his usual dash. Bimeter has tightened up after his rent racing. He was also allotted reverse work on the grass track at a strong pace this morning. Beyform is not an attractive galloper, and in a sprint over half a mile in conipany with Prince Delaware and Atheldana this morning he finished a bad last. Silver Shield appears to be comingback to form, and, taking over half a mile in company, he finished much better than Briar Patch at the end of a strcngly-run six furlongs on the grass track this morning. He should be worth bearing in mind for the near future.
.Top and Spangle, a couple of two-years-olds in G. Aynsley's stable, ran a couple of furlongs on the grass this morning there was little to choose between them. The former is a big raking sort, and has not been hurried. She looks like developing into a useful sort. Flora MacDonald is commencing to exhibit some of her old form. She ran seven furlongs with Waitara as a companion on the send track this morning. She was conceding her rival a lot of weight, but experienced little trouble in holding her own. From a time point of view her effort was one of the best of the morning. Troon selected her own galloping ground this morning. Taking charge of her pilot vjhile going over the crossing she covered a round the reverse way on the course proper at top speed, despite the efforts of her rider to stop her. Luckily the track was free from obstacles, and no damage was done. E. Cutts has re-comissioned Wise
Bird, who got tangled in a fence a few weeks back and cut one of her
hind legs rather badly. This was a piece of iil-luck for the filly’s connections, as her chances of annexing a race at the cup meeting looked exceedingly bright. Autumnus dashed over a short course on the sand this morning, finishing strongly, and pulling up sound. After giving away ■& couple of lengths to Lady Veles over half a mile, Trilby proved the better of the pair at the end of the journey run on the grass track this morning. Glee went well over a mile this morning, assisted by Mekchikoff over the last six furlongs. It is doubtful if she will ever make a stayer, as she stops at the end of a. mile. Bon and Thrax dashed over six, furlongs in company this morning. The latter, who looks muscular and well, showed to most advantage. Forest Belle gave another exhibition of her inconsistency in a gallop over nine furlongs this morning. Nithsdale picked her up at the seven-furlong mark and was several lengths in front when the winning post was reached. The former appeared to give up when joined by her stable mate, and her effort was a poor one. TURF TOPICS. Shipwith has been appointed starter to the Kelson Jockey Club. Private advice was received in Christchurch yesterday of the death of Columbus, the promising three-year-old son of Casco and Rosalia.
