THRILLING TALES OF THEIR BRAVERY. GALLANT DEEDS AGAINST GREAT ODDS. LONDON, November 22. Thrilling narratives tell of the bravery of the West Kent Regiment. They covered the retreat of the Fifth Division after Mens, and figured prominently at the Aisne. Their latest exploit is the five days defence of Nouve-Chayelie, against heavy odds at th 2 end of October. Tremendous artillery lire forced the Yorkshire Light Infantry to evacuate the trenches, leaving the Rents' flank exposed. The German trenches were only 500 yards distant and desperate attacks followed. The £ents shattered the attackers with rifle fire, and drove them back with a bayonet charge. The Germans renewed the attack on the ' t" "lowing day, when the trencher- were uv,\f 2GO yards apart. The Germans, working to the Kents' riw. Twelve : officers and over 800 men were killed rvounded and missing before reinforce'•ills of Indians and French troops onbled them to make a counter attack. All the lost trendies were recovered. General Smith-Dorrien visited and specially commended the West Kents.
