The Matunga brought eleven wounded members of the Kal>aul expedition; also thirteen German prisoners and intended passengers. Recently a dozen Germans and a number of natives entrenched on Nurinatam Island, New Ireland, and refused to surrender. Troops have been sent" to deal with the outlaws. The Daily Mail says that Japan's act will be thoroughly appreciated by Australia as characteristic of the solid, arity prevailing between the Allies. The Daily News says that the fact goes far to remove the fears and anxieties felt on Japan's entry into the war. OPERATIONS AT RABAUL. MISSING BRITISH CONSUL FOUND (Received 10.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, November 20. The whereabouts of Mr. Jolly, British Consul at Rabaul have been ascertained. Tt appears that immediately war broke out the Germans took Mr. JolJy to Kaeweing, 170 miles from Rabaul. An expedition left on October 6 with machine guns, and a three pounder. A few shots from the latter led the townspeople to show the Avhite flag. The party landed and posted proclamations. The Germans promised to return Mr. Jolly the following morning. Leaving a garrison of nine men they sailed to Garden Island where they captured three vessels containing quantities 'of ions and rifles. . Eight Germans and 60 natives were prisoned. Mr. Jolly had meanwhile joined the garrison. He stated that he received excellent treatment at the hands of the Germans.
