TURKEY AND THE ENTENTE
OPERATIONS IN ASIA MINOR. TURKISH FORCE DEFEATED WITH LOSS. BRITISH CASUALTIES SEVERE. The High Commissioner reports: LONDON, November IS. 'I he general commanding i.he force operating at Shattela,- Persian Gulf, reports: "An advance was made on November 17 nine miles up the right bank of the river. Our troops encountered 4500 of the enemy in a strong entrenched position with 12 guns. After overcoming a determined resistance we turned his left flank and carries the entrenchments, The enemy retired losing two guns, many prisoners, their animal transport and reserve ammunition. Our casualties were: Killed, officers, three; men, 35. Wounded: officers, one; men, 15. TURKISH COLUMN DEFEATED. PETROGRAD, Nov. 20. (Official). —The Russians defeated a Turkish column in the Ottiechai Valley. The action is proceeding on the whole Erzcroum front, but is hindered by the rains.
