PICTURE T&EATSES. The screening oil the latest p'O ara.ijri.fe at Nieholls' Picture Pnlst-o was greeted by a full and appreciative house last night. By far ilie most superior picture was the extremely exciting detective melodrama, which held the beholders spell-bound by the very unexpectedness of events. The title cf this huge success is "From the Jaws of Death." It is, in truth, a star amongst stars. The plot is deeply lnid and lias r charm usually absent from melodramatic productions. The Vitagrupli drama, "The Old Oak's Secret.'' also merits attention. To-morrow night the Knlem drama, "'The Wiles of a Siren ' will be screened for the first time at the Three Stars Theatre. This charming picture despicts a variety of life in Mervie England and in Darkest Africa. Two other dramas, "The Kiss of Retribution'-' and "At His Expense." are claimed to be of genuine interest. The programme is rich ir comedies, amongst which raay be mentioned "Wiffles as a Lucky Benedict,-' "Bessie Smith—Mayor of Podunk," and "Rube's Duck."" The gorgeous scenic, "Life in Morocco,'-' and the Topical Budget also find a high position on this delightful programme. THE KENNEDYS. Seldom have the residents had the opportunity of bearing music of the class submitted by the Kennedys on Saturday night, and the orowded house was unstinted in its hearty appreciation, says a Dunedin exchange. From overture to curtain the Kennedy's held their audience throughout, and the warm approbation accorded them was sufficient indication of the pleasure those present received from the magnificent programme. Encores were the rule and on several occasions triple recalls liaa -to be acceded to. The Kennedys opened with an instrumental quartette (Nocturne) and a barcarolle from opera (Tales of Hoffman) both received. Mr Keith Kennedy is a violinist of unusual ability, and his rendition of " Ziguenerweisen" was beautifully treated. The 'cellist, Mr. Laurie Kennedy, was a most popular' performer and the audience was loth to part with him. His first item was splendidly received, but his second item " Ungarische Rhapsodie" was one of the features of the evening. Mr. Lance Kennedy's flute solo was also an exceptionally clever turn, bis fullness of tons and appreciation of "U Carnivale di Venezia" being thoroughly applauded. Miss Dorothy Grace created a furore with her soprano singing and is the happy possessor cf rare vocal and stage qualifies. A contralto with exceptionally round and restful notes was Miss Rosa Fitzgerald and the audience thought highly of her ability. The company appears at the Town Kali .Taihape, on Monday next. Box plan at Finch's Bazaar.
