Hand-to-hand fighting at Mesines continues The Scots Guards and Scots Greys brilliantly bore the brunt of sev. eral attacks. Once devastating shellfire raked the British lines, and retirement was imminent. When the shellfire ceased the German masses pushed forward to sweep the trenches, but the Scotsmen leaped out and awaited the charge. The conflict was short and sharp.
