STORMY WEATHER.
THE UTITMAPTJ OX TIIE REEF. Ox Tuesday last wo experienced tin. first bad weather of this hurricane season. About 1 a.m. there was a very heavy squall from the N.W., and the wind continued to blow from that quarter nearly all day. About ;j.if, p.m. tho German Firm's schooner Utumapu, in attempting to go out i>£ the harbor, was caught by a squall, and driven on to the reef. All efforts to got hor off that day proved unavailing, but on Thursday morning she w-as got off and brought up to Matafele. Under tho circumstances she suffered comparatively little damage, as she only lost her false keel, and part of her copper was torn off. H.I.G.M.s. Bussard left tho harbor during the heavy weather, and went to sea. The British warship Bingarooma was seen cruising outsido during the afternoon, but did not enter the harbor till "Wednesday morning. The Bussard returned on Thursday morning, and left again tho same afternoon for Pago Pago. H.M.s. Ringarooma also took her departure for that place on Thursday, where she will await the arrival of tho Wainui, which vessel has a quantity of coal on board for her. The Upolu will leave for Pago after the discharge of her Apia cargo, and after coaling the man-of-war, leave for Auckland, via Fiji and Tonga. The D. H. and P. G.'s cutter Atafu, which arrived in harbor early yesterday morning from Futuna and Wallis Islands, reports having met with bad weather after leaving Wallis Island.
In another column we give an account of how the s.s. Alameda fared during the gale. From outside reports we hear that had weather was experienced all through the group. The s.s. Upolu, which is expected to arrive hero to-day or to-morrow, will bring us news of whether tho gale was folt in Tonga or not. A strango feature of this heavy weather was that the barometer never fell below 29.90 during its continuance.
