BURGLARY CHARGE
BOOTMAKER APPEARS BEFORE COURT S.M. REFUSES BAIL “He was caught attempting to break into a building at 1.30 o’clock this morning. He was wearing a mask, and said he was a sleeping partner in the business premises into which he was attempting to break.” So said Chief-Detective Hammond at the Police Court today, when Patrick Gunn, a bootmaker, aged 35, was charged with attempting to break and enter the premises of H. L. White, Ltd., Karangahape Road, with intent to commit a crime. Mr. Sullivan appeared for accused. The chief-detective asked fdr a remand until September 27, and Mr. Sullivan requested bail, which was opposed by the police. “He is an habitual criminal, out on licence,” said Mr. Hammond. "In that case, bail is refused,” said Mr. W. H. Woodward, S.M., in remanding Gunn to appear on September 27.
