“THEY LEARNED ABOUT WOMEN" With ten new song- hits. Van and Schenck make a tunefully triumphant debut as motion picture stars in ‘’They Learned About Women,” Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer’s new musical sound feature, which opens today at the National Theatre. The famous singing stars bring a bit of the life they have known as vaudeville performers and baseball players into the picture, enacting the roles of ball players who drift on to the stage to fill in the gap between seasons on the diamond. In their song numbers. written especially for them by Milton Ager and Jack Yellen, Van and Schenck have the theme of the film incorporated, the new hits including “Does My Baby?” “Ain’t You Baby?” “Harlem Madness.” “He’s That Kind of a Pal,” “Ten Little Mamas.” “Partners,” “I’m an Old-Fashioned Guy” and “Doucrhertv.” Not to be outdone, little Bessie Love, who plays the leading feminine role, divulges a song number pf her very own, “I’ve Got a Man of My Own,” cleverly rendered and appropriately titled. Jack Conway and Sam Wood directed the pic!rom an original story by A. P. Younger, a swiftly moving plot that is climaxed in a thrilling World Series sequence. Sarah Y. Mason adapted the story for the screen and “Bugs’* Baer, noted humorist, wrote the slangy baseball dialogue. Included in the supporting cast are Mary Doran, Eddie Gribbon, J. C. Nugent, Benny Rubin, Tommy Dugan and Francis X. Bushman, Jr. The National’s new programme will also include a full list of short talkie featurettes.
