TAUMAI’S DAM SOLD STAR LAP SHOWS PROMISE Special to TUB SUK TE AROHA, Today. It is understood that the brood mare, dam of Tauraai and Ah Were, has been i purchased by Mr. D. Walker, of Te I Aroha. She is quite a good stamp of 1 a thoroughbred, and is built on strong lines. After his return from the Avondale fixture trainer C. R. 'Wallace expects to put his Day Comet two-year-old filly into work. Dimint, the other two-year-old in the team, will be something for her to go with. He is shaping into a typical galloper, and if the tillv does likewise the C. R. Wallace stable will come into prominence. Ah Wera is still being spelled, but it j may not be long before lie is recom- : missioned. The deeds of his full brother. Taumai, at the Great Northern meeting, naturally impels Ah Wera's owner to give this gelding a chance of making a name for himself. His galloping and jumping capabilities have already been amply proved. The Valkyrian filly in M. Dipsey's stable is settling down to her new conditions, and will soon be bowling along on the tracks. She is the only Valkyrian in work here, but is by no means the slowest of the younger brigade. Her success on the Turf would be very popular, for she is owned by a Hungahunga lady enthusiast. Although Glenison is not engaged at the Avondale or Auckland meetings, her condition is such that she is ready to race at short notice. For some time this Glen Albyn filly was apt to lighten up after a gallop, but now appears to be more solid and robust. , Master Datour ought to pay his way this season for, if he should not be very successful on the flat, he is such a powerful customer that he should be a performer of real merit over the battens. His owner is putting him through a good preparation, and he will be ready early. The virtue of feeding thoroughbreds in their early years is proved in the case of Star Dap. from Mr. James McXicol’s Wairakau Estate, and now leased to trainer A. Cox. Handled only a few weeks ago this Sandstar filly is sprinting in line style, and will be quite ready to race in the early summer. Maybe she will enter the lists at the Waikato spring meeting in November.
