An enjoyable social, arranged by St. Matthew’s Entertainment Committee, was bold in Morrinsville this week. Music was supplied by Mrs. L. E. Pole, Miss V. Brayshaw and Miss It. Johnston. Among- those present were:—Mesdames L. E. Pole, N. Barker. K. Goble. Misses D. Cargill, A. Cornish, V. Clark. B. Ramsay, P. Bentley, R. Johnston. E. Morrice, A'. Johnston, D. "Wright. M. Muir, 13. I. McKenna (Hamilton). V. Brayshaw, J. Watson, G. Meek. W.D.F.U. There was a good attendance at the September meeting of the Morrinsville branch of tho Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union on Friday. The president, Mrs. A. I. Walker, was in the ! chair. After the business had been disposed of, a debate was held on the question, “Is the present method of bringing up children any better than the oldfashioned way?” The affirmative was taken by Mesdames M. E. Barrowdough and E. Donovan, and the negative by Mesdames F. Jenner and F. Marx. Several others joined in the debate, the. arguments on both sides being clearly expressed. CROQUET CLUB’S ANNUAL MEETING The 17 th annual meeting of the Morrinsville Croquet Club was hold ; on Tuesday, the president, Mrs. T. E. Martin, presiding.
The annual report stated that the only regrettable feature of the season was the very small membership, there being only 20 members to carry on the work. As the result of individual efforts by members of the club and the holding of stalls and the annual bazaar the club was now in quite a good financial position, having a balance at the bank of £ 87. However, a payment of £-45 had to be met in October. Receipts had totalled £152 12s sd, and expenditure £65 12s 2d. The debt on the grounds had been reduced by £25, leaving a balance of £422. Members’ subscriptions amounted to £37 8s 6d, and other sources of revenue were:—Annual bazaar, £42 2s: stalls and sale of cake, £27 10s lid: card afternoon,. £lO 13s; concert and pictures, £l3 4s. The following officers were elected: Patron, Mr. J Howie; president. Mrs T. E. Martin; vice-presidents, Mrs. D C. McLeod and Mrs. 11. Ramsay; secretary, Mrs. A. M. Stir'ing; committee Mesdames J. Mackay, IT. Donald, IT Manuel and G. Irvine; green supervisor, Mr. G. Howie; match committee Mesdames T. Martin, T. Stirling and McLeod. The opening day was fixed for October IS, and invitations were sent to Te Arolia, Matamata. Tatuanui, Tahuna and Waharoa clubs. YOUNG PEOPLE’S PARTY Mrs. W. Butler, of Morrinsville, gave a very enjoyable young people’s party at her home on Tuesday evening, when the time was spent in dancing and ga mes. Mrs. Butler received her guests in a frock of black georgette. Miss Jean Butler wore a frock of blush pink satin and georgette. Among those present were:—Misses T. Oates, D. Watts, I. Campbell, S. Cornish, J. Gammer, M. Oates, A. Jackson, Bernice Marra. I-\ Hawkins, M. Ensor, G. Brown. J. Cornish. L. Clark, Ij. Eshlin, J. ’ Thompson.
