TAHITI'S CREW STRANDED

MANY IN DIFFICULTIES IN WELLINGTON NO GRANT IN AID MADE Press Association WELLINGTON, Today. Out of work, and having lost all their personal belongings when their ship foundered, many of the Tahiti’s ere* are finding it hard to keep going until the new Monowai is put into commission. Several stewards who are stranded in Wellington say they received one month and three days’ pay from the Union Company when they were paid off on their arrival here, but all the money went in purchasing clothing to replace that lost when the Tahiti sank. They attribute their position to the Shipwreck Relief Society not making the usual grant of £ls, despite the fact it has £13,000 in hand. The men recall the grant made after the Manuka wreck and say their loss is much more severe as more extensive equipment is required on the longer voyages.
