ROADS AND WATER

NEW LYNN LOAN PROPOSAL POLL OF RATEPAYERS TODAY A poll of ratepayers of New Lynn is being taken today on proposals to borrow £13,250 for road works, and a water reticulation scheme. The road works, for which a loan of £4,650 is proposed, include the concreting of 76 chains of the Titirangi Road from the Great North Road to the boundary of the Waitemata County. This work would absorb £3,000 of the loan, and would carry a £3 for £1 subsidy from the Main Highways Board. Concreting of the Waitemata County Council’s portion of the Titirangi Road will shortly be proceeded with under the authority granted by a poll of ratepayers last year. If the loan for the New Lynn section of the work is sanctioned, an uninterrupted concrete highway will be provided from the Great North Road to the summit of the hill at. Titirangi. The balance of the road loan would be spent on constructing a 20ft wide concrete roadway in Todd's and Totara Avenues, from the railway crossing to the Great North Road. A loan of £8,600 is proposed for the strengthening and® extension of the present waterworks reticulation system, but only £2,400 of the loan lias been authorised by the Local Government Loans Board to be raised and spent at the present time. The work to be done with that portion of the loan would be the rfeticulation of the Kelston area of the borough.
