PERSONAL. Captain C. Elders recently resumed command of the Waipiata after holidays, Captain J. Eankine coming ashore for instructions. Captain E. J. C. Gibson has resumed command of the Kakariki. vice Captain R. Hunlty, who has been transferred to command of the Ngatoro, relieving Captain M. MacKenzie for holidays. Mr. J. W. Thomson has rejoined the Poolta as chief officer after holidays, relieving Mr. E. J. Deed for his holidays. • THE ARLINGTON CO U RT. —Henderson and Macfarlane advise that the steamer Arlington Court, which was at Auckland recently with phosphates from Ocean Island, left Westport yesterday for Nauru Island, where she will take on a fresh load of phosphate for Australia. THE PORT WAIKATO. —Messrs. Watkin and Wallis advise that the intercolonial motor-rship Port Waikato is at Timaru today loading for Tauranga, Whahgarei and Dargaville. She is to leave there at 5 p.m. today for Lyttelton to complete her cargo. THE KARETU. —The Union Steam Ship Company’s steamer Karetu is scheduled to leave Lyttelton on Friday for Auckland direct, and from here proceeds to Newcastle and Sydney. She leaves Sydney on October 2 for Lautoka, Suva, Levuka, thence Auckland, Newcastle and back to Sydney. AVONDALE RACES. —The Northern Steamship Company advises that its steamer Rangitoto, for the convenience of Avondale race patrons, will leave Thames for Auckland at midnight on Friday. She is now scheduled to sail from Auckland for Thames at 10 o’clock on Friday morning, this trip' taking the place of that previously scheduled for Saturday. NIAGARA LEAVES SYDNEY TOMORROW.—The Union Steam Ship Company's Royal Mail liner Niagara is scheduled to leaye Sydney tomorrow* afternoon for Vancouver, via Auckland, Suva, Honolulu and Victoria, B.C. She is due to arrive at Auckland on Monday morning, September 22, and sails the following day at 11 a.m. in continuation of her journey. She is carrying passengers, mail and cargo. TRADE TO SUVA. —The Messageries Maritimes have recently acquired four steamers, which will be renamed Boussole, Astrolabe, Esperance, and Recherche, and are intended for service on the Panama route. This addition to the company’s large fleet will enable them to promote further facilities for traffic to Tahiti, Suva and Noumea, and thus endeavour to develop considerably this already popular route. The Boussole is scheduled to leave Marseilles on December 3 and the Astrolabe on January 14, 1931. In consequence of these changes the Ville de Verdun will now sail on October 22. THE BRISBANE MARU. —Advice received from A. G. Prankhara, Ltd., states that the Osaka Shosen Kaisha Line’s motor-ship Brisbane Maru, which is to inaugurate an extended itinerary of the company’s service between Japan and Australia by including New Zealand ports In each voyage of the three sister ships, Brisbane Maru, Sydney Maru and Melbourne Maru, is to leave Melbourne, on her first voyage to New Zealand, on October 27. Her first port of call will be Wellington, where she is due on November 1. From the capital slie will como on to Auckland and is scheduled to arrive here on November 4. and is to sail again the following day for Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Japanese ports. The vessel will discharge cargo from Japan and Australia in New Zealand and also load for her return trip to Australia and Japan.
the: WAIKOUAITI. —The Union Oorananv advises that the Waikouaiti is scheduled to sail from Sydney tomorrow for Wellington, Lyttelton, Timaru. Dunedin and BlufT. MAHENO AT MELBOURNE. —The Union Company’s intercolonial vessel Maheno arrived at Melbourne at 8 a.m. on Saturday from New Zealand and wj 11 sail at 10 a.m. tomorrow for Bluff, Dunedin, Lyttelton and Wellington. OMANA AT NEWCASTLE. —Thfe steamer Omana, owned by the Union Steam Ship Company, arrived at Newcastle from Auckland on Friday and is reported to be loading coal for \\ ellington. THE MAMILIUS. —An arrival at Wellington this morning was the Shaw, Savill and Albion steamer Mamilius to complete final loading for London and West (’oast ports of Great Britain. She will probably be dispatched for London tomorrow. THE KARTIGI. —The Union Steam Ship Company's steamer Kartigi is due to arrive at Hobart about September 2.t and loads there, completing at -'"clbourne and Devonport, for Auckland, Lyttelton, Dunedin and Bluff. THE KAPONGA. —An expected arrival at Auckland on Friday is the Union Steam Ship Company’s steamer Kapongii, which is reported to have left Melbourne at 4 o’clock on Friday afternoon for Auckland, Portland, New Plymouth and Wellington. p THE SOLOY. —The Norwegian motorship Soloy was expected to clear New Plymouth on Saturday for Newcastle and Fremantle to complete unloading sulphur from Texas. After completion of discharge she is to proceed to Bunbury to load jarrah for New Zealand. MAT AI FOR WELLINGTON. —An arrival at Wellington about the middle of October will be the new Government steamer Matai, which is now en route from England to New Zealand. She is reported to have left Balboa last Wednesday*. THE WAI PAH I. —The Union Company’s Island steamer Waipahi arrived from Wellington yesterday morning and is loading at King’s Wharf. She is scheduled to sail for Rarotonga, Aitutaki, Atiu and Mauke, in the Cook Islands, at 11 o'clock tomorrow morning.
THE RUAPEHU. —The New Zealand Shipping Company’s liner Ruapehu left Wellington for Auckland at daybreak today to complete unloading her general merchandise cargo from London and tc commence loading for her homeward voyage. She ii? due on Friday. THE! AORANGI. —The Royal Mail liner Aorangi is, according to advice received from the Union Steam Ship Company, scheduled to sail from Vancouver for Sydney today, via Victoria. 8.C., Honolulu, Suva and Auckland. She is due to arrive here on October 5 and sails, the following day for Sydney. She is due to arrive at Sydney on October 10. _ TARANAKI'S PROGRAMME. —Adv“e has been received from the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company that the Taranaki commenced loading at Port Chalmers on Monday. She will also load at Bluff, Wellington, Napier, Waikokopu. Gisborne and Auckland, and is to sail finally from here on October 8 for London, via the Panama Canal. THE MATAROA AT WELLINGTON. —An arrival at Wellington this morning was the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company’s passenger liner Mataroa from Southampton and London with passengers, mails and cargo. The vessel is scheduled to clear Auckland finally on October 22 for Southampton and London, via Panama. THE HAURAKI. —The Union Steam Ship Company’s trans-Pacific motorvessel Hauraki is reported to have sailed from Vancouver for other Pacific Coast ports, to complete loading for Papeete, Auckland, Wellington. Melbourne, Adelaide and Sydney. She is scheduled to clear Los Angeles on September 30 and is due to arrive at Auckland on October 24. RANGITATA CLEARED PANAMA.— The New Zealand Shipping Company has received advice that the motor-liner Rangitata sailed from Panama last Friday in continuation of her voyage from London and Southampton. The is bringing passengers and mail for New Zealand and general merchandise for discharge at Wellington and Auckland. She is scheduled to arrive at Wellington on October 1 and at Auckland a week later. THE MATAROA. —Further wireless advice received from the Shaw. Savill and Albion liner Mataroa states that she will arrive at Wellington from London and Southampton at noon today. In addition to passengers and mail for New Zealand the vessel has a general merchandise cargo for discharge at Wellington and Auckland. She is scheduled to reach this port next Wednesday. L. D. Nathan and Company, Limited, is the local agent. THE WAIOTAPU. —The Union Company’s trans-Pacific steamer Waiotapu reached Suva, from Newcastle last Saturday and will load a sugar cargo at Fiji on September 28. After discharge at Vancouver the vessel will load at Pacific Coast ports during November for Auckland, 'Wellington, Melbourne and Sydney. She is scheduled to clear Los Angeles on November 17, and to reach Auckland on December 10.
THE HERTFORD. —The New Zealand Shipping Company advises that the Federal Line steamer Hertford is scheduled to reach Auckland from Liverpool next Tuesday. The vessel has general merchandise from West Coast ports of Great Britain for discharge at Auckland, Napier, Wellington, Lyttelton, Port Chalmers and New Plymouth. After completion of discharge she is to load at New Plymouth, and also at Wanganui, Lyttelton, Wellington, Napier, Gisborne and Auckland. She is to leave Auckland finally for ~ London, via Panama, on November 23. TRANS-PACIFIC CARGO SERVICES. —Waihemo was expected to leave Ocean Falls on Monday for San Francisco and Los Angeles to complete loading for New Zealand outports. Hauraki leaves San Francisco September 27 for Los Angeles, to complete loading for Papeete, Auckland, Wellington, Melbourne, Adelaide and Sydney. Waiotapu clears Suva September SO for Vancouver direct. Waikawa left Port Chalmers on Monday for Bluff, and was due there yesterday. Returns Vancouver via Westport. Wairuna left Auckland yesterday* for Wellington; due Wellington tomorrow morning. Sails again Friday for Melbourne; due Melbourne September 26; Sydney, September 30; thence to Newcastle and Auckland. RANGITIKI DELAYED. —The New Zealand Shipping Company’s motor-liner Rangitiki was to have sailed for Southampton and London at daybreak today*, but owing to the wet weather last evening delaying the loading of the vessel her departure was postponed until noon today. ROYAL VISIT TO RANGITIKI.—Prince George made early last month a tour of the Rangitiki, one of three motor-liners, of about 17,000 tons gross, constructed by Messrs. John Brown and Company, Ltd., for the New Zealand Shipping Company, Ltd., prior to her departure for Wellington from the Royal Albert Dock (reports “The Shipping World’’). His Royal Highness was received at the gangway* by* Air. C. J. Cowan, chairman of the New Zealand Shipping Company, and Captain H. Barnett, commanding the Rangitiki, and made a tour of the ship, repeatedly expressing his admiration of the design of the vessel, her decorations and her equipment. The inspection in-
cluded even the stewards’ quarters and storerooms, and the facilities for handling cargo, of yvhich about 13.000 tons deadweight, can be carried. RUAHINE REPO RTS.—Wireless advice received from the New Zealand Shipping Company's liner Ruahine states that she will arrive at Wellington from London and Southampton on September 20, two days ahead of schedule. In addition to passengers and mail for New Zealand the vesel has a general merchandise cargo for discharge at Wellington, Port Chalmers, Lyttelton and Timaru. THE PORT CAROLINE.—The Commonwealth and Dominion Line steamer Port Caroline is due at Bluff from Port Kembla tomorrow morning to comment loading in New Zealand for London. The vesel’s loading ports are Bluff. Timaru, Lyttelflon, New Plymouth, WaTifeanu:’ Auckland and Wellington. She is scheduled to load at Auckland on October 6 and October 7, and to sail from Wellington for London on October 11. The Farmers’ ' Co-operative Auctioneering Company is the local agent. INTERCOLONIAL SERVICE. The Union Company’s passenger steam*Maunganui arrived at Sydney from Wellington at nine o’clock yesterday* morning. The vessel is to sail on her retu.n trip on Friday and she is due bade at Wellington next Tuesday. From Wellington the Alaunganui will return to Sydney and not come on to Auckland, as she was formerly scheduled to do. She will be withdrawn at Sydney from the intercolonial service and will be transferred to the Pacific mail service to make a voyage to San Francisco until she is replaced by the ex P. and O. liner Monowai. which is to replace the lost steamer Tahiti. The Marama will be recommissioned in tlje intercolonial service at Wellingtoif next week, in place of the Alaunganui, and will proceed from. Wellington to Sydney, via Auckland. She is scheduled to leave Auckland on September 26. WITHIN WIRELESS RANGE— The following vessels are expected to be within range of the undermentioned wireless stations tonight;— Auckland: Tofua, Astoria.
