UNEMPLOYMENT BILL

PROTEST FROM FARMERS Following copies of resolutions condemning the proposal of a poll-tax as laid down in the Unemployment Bill sent in by several branches the Auckland Provincial Executive of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union last -evening decided to send a circular letter to each member of the Legislative Council asking that the Council reject the Bill. A motion to that effect was moved by Mr. H. O. Mellsop. There was only one dissentient to the motion. Instances were given where farmers were absolutely up against it and would not l>e able to meet the tax: at the moment many were behind with their interest and rent, -and in many cases had a struggle to secure the bare necessities of life.
