FIRE BRIGADE QUEEN CARNIVAL

PRESENTATION OF PLAY AT WAIUKU Tho Waiuku Fire Brigade’s Queen Carnival was concluded last Wednesday evc-ning, when the Public Hall was well filled to witness the crowning of the successful queen and to hear the three-act play ‘Belinda.” The procession was led by the Business Queen, Aliss Borothy James, who was attired in a frock of lemon satin, her train of lemon and white satin being carried by little Bawn Horton, who acted as page. Her maids of honour, Misses Rowena Brighouso and Pearl Elmsley, wore flame satin frocks, while the little flower girls, Joyce Barriball and Thyra Horton, were dressed m lemon voile. The Country Queen, Miss Alice May, chose a pretty frock of pale pink satin, her train of similar material being carried by Master William Ohlson. who was page. Alisses Mona Bohnt and Alerlo Mclntosh, as maids of honour, wore lemon georgette and pale blue georgette respectively. Little Jill Cuming and Marie Hull, as flower girls, were dressed in pale pink organdie. Following last in the brilliant procession came the winning queen. Aliss Thelma Flavell, who represented the Sports. Her frock of white satin and lace was relieved with gold, while her red plush and white ermine train was carried by Pat Stanton, as page. Her maids of honour, Alisses Bawn Pickard and Muriel Buff, wore frock of green satin and georgette, their caps being of green tulle. The little flower girls, Valerie Knight and Yeoland Wright, wore pretty little frocks of mauve satin and georgette. After the crowning ceremony, in which the following took part:—Chan cellor, Mr. V. J. Williams, junr.; Bishop, Air. R. G. Alclntosh; herald. Air. B. Geraghter; beefeaters, Alessrs. R. Copas, V. Buff. L. Blackler jand R. D. Hosking, the chairman of the Waiuku Town Board, Air. J. J. A. James, heartily congratulated all who had helped to make the carnival such a. success. When the carnival commenced he considered that if £3OO was raised it would be a splendid effort, but this amount had been considerably exceeded and £450 was in hand before tho conclusion. He heartily congratulated Queen Thelma on her success and also the Business and Country Queens in so ably assisting to raise very necessary funds, and presented each of the queens with mementoes from the fire brigade. Air, James then presented a service bar to Fireman H. L. Wassell and three-year service certificates to Beputy-Superintendent R. G. Alclntosh, Foreman V. J. Williams, Junr., and Firemen E. J. Copas, H. N. Atchinson. A. Farrelly, Jack Arkle and W. Lee. At tho conclusion of the chairman’s remarks the popular three-act play “Belinda,” by A. A. Alilne, was successfully produced by local talent. The were taken by the following: Airs. Tremayne (Belinda), Airs. W. S. Bridle; her daughter (Bella). Mrs. R. Whiteside; Betty (maid). Airs. A. W.
