ADDRESS TO ASSEMBLY AT GENEVA GESTURE FOR PEACE Reed. 11.10 a.m. GENEVA. Monday. Mr. J. A. Brennan (Australia) was? the first speaker to take the rostrum and continue the general debate at the League o£ Nations Assembly today. His good voice was heard throughout the building. Under the new system oC simultaneous translation by which the interpreters’ voices reach tt;e audience by means of ear-phones in whatever language is desired, his speech was translated into French during its actual delivery. M. Briand (France) thus closely followed the reference to the European federation. Mr. Brennan’s claim that Australia was worthily carrying out her mandatory duties was applauded by many delegates. He said: “Australia tells the world as a gesture of peace that she is not prepared for war. She has, however, a policy of defence. Australia is ready to join a detailed study of M. Briand’s plan. Mr. Matsudiara (Japan), immediately ..followed, and expressed Japan's desire for further naval to supplement her own voluntary reduction of military strength of 35 per cent.
