“GOLDEN ARROW” ARRIVES

TO BE SHOWN AT MOTOR OLYMPIA IN AUCKLAND SEGRAVE’S FAMOUS CAR "Golden Arrow” the freak racing car which the late Sir Henry Segrave drove over the sands of Daytona Beach, Florida, to establish a new land speed record for the world, ef 231 miles an hour, arrived In Auckland this morning from Sydney by the Ulimaroa. It has been brought here to be exhibited throughout New Zealand and will be the central attraction at the All-British Motor Olympia, which is to be held in Cadman’s Parking Station from October 3 to 11. In a huge case between 30 and 40 feet in length, the "Golden Arrow” was located ou the fore-deck of the Ulimaroa. Later it was lifted by a crane on to a motor-truck trailer and taken up Queen Street to Cadman's Parking Station. As it was being towed along it attracted considerable attention. The car has been presented to tiio British Nation by Lord Wakefield and is being taken round the world under the auspices of the Society of Motor Manufactures and Traders. The “Golden Arrow” cost £IB,OOO to build and 30 seconds was its actual useful life. It was powered with a single Napier “Lion" engine of 12 cylinders developing about 930 horsepower. The "Golden Arrow" was constructed by Captain J. S. Irving, and is well recognised as one of the greatest triumphs of the British motor i ldustry. It was constructed entirety of British materials and it easily broke the previous world's record of 207.55 miles an hour, which was established by the American, Ray Keech. in his car "Triplex,” at tona iu 1928.
