H. A. MASSEY ENTERS FINAL DEFEAT OF M. D. WHITE In an excellent display of billiards, which included the highest break so far made in the tournament. H. A. Massey beat M. D. White in the second semi-final of the Auckland amateur billiards championship last night. A large number of spectators, including many women, witnessed the game. White commenced in his best form an j at his second and fourth visits made breaks of 37 and 26 respectively. His opponent was also scoring consistently and made a break of 22, White responding with a similar number at his next visit. White reached the hundred mark with a slight lead. Massey evened the score soon after by making a run of 25. Breaks of 2 5 and 22 by White and 33 by Masey made the score 157 all. Both players were scoring freely without taking any undue risks. White’s next effort was a run of 22 and he gained the 200 mark with a 30-odd lead. Massey at his next two visits scored 100 points in making breaks of 74 and 26, the former being the highest of the tournament to date. A further break of 25 by Massey gave him a lead of over 100. the score being: Massey. 318; White, 212. The balls ran badly for White at this stage and he scored only 30-odd points in 14 visits to the table. Massey reached mark with a lead of over 130. YY hue reduced his opponent’s lead by adding a 2 8 break. He was unable to make up the leeway, as Massey added a further break of 37 and ran out a winner by 162 points. The final score was: ; —H. A, Massey. breaks of 22, 25. 33, 74, 26, 25 ami 37. M. D. White, 335: breaks of 37. 26, 22. 25, 22, 22 and 28. W. E. Hackett will play IT. A. Massey in the final, commencing tonight. The match will be 1,000 up, in two sessions of 500.
