Waikato Club’s Spring Card

ATTRACTIVE SCHEDULE A POPULAR FIXTURE The Waikato Trotting Club, which will again open t.ie Auckland country circuit with its fixture on Saturday, October 11, has drafted an attractive card for the function. The schedule as usual is of a nature that will encourage owners and trainers to patronise the meeting in large numbers and it is no vain boast to say. that the energetic secretary, Mr. T. G. Reynolds, will be kept extremely busy on Tuesday, September 23, the day set aside for receiving nominations. For the convenience of Auckland owners, Messrs. Blomfiekl and Co., will accept entries at their Sliortland Street offices. The principal event on the attractive card is the Mark Memorial Handicap of £4OO, with, the useful limit to 4.38. Horses taking part in this item will also have a chance in the Stewards’ mile (2.18 limit) which carries a stake of £2OO. The Claude--1 rends Handicap, which was formerly run over two miles, has been reduced to ten furlongs and with its equivalent allocation of 2.24 to the mile, will provide a splendid second chance for those taking part in the Franklin Handicap, a race for novices and improvers, with a 3.56 limit lor thirteen furlongs, which is approximately a 2.25 gait. For the slower class two milers. the President’s Handicap has been left in. a useful heat for horses capable

of going 4.50 or better. Then for the intermediate section there is the Visitors’ Handicap, of £145, with a 2.57 limit. This event will also attract some of those in the slower class heats, particularly likely winners, whose penalty would still give them a fine chance in the shorter limit item. Trotters have not been overlooked, qnd for the lesser lights the Introductory Handicap, run over a mile and five furlongs, has a 4.10 limit, which works out in the vicinity of 2.34 to the mile. The higher grade • squaregaiters have the Hamilton Handicap, valued at £2OO. to attract them, and with the handy limit of 4.48 will afford a fine opportunity for many candidates aspiring to higher rank at the subsequent Auckland fixtures. Mr. C. E. Goosman is the handicapper and will announce adjustments on September 27, and acceptances close on October 3. Mr. H. W. Burch is again president of the club and visitors to the meeting will be assured of the real Waikato welcome being extended as usual.
