MANY FIRE CALLS

SEVERAL BRIGADES BUST NO SERIOUS DAMAGE I Slight damage was caused by fire ifl ; three instances in which the Remuera brigade answered the call on Saturday. The prompt arrival of the firemen prevented any serious outbreaks. Clothing which had been left near the kitchen range caught alight after 11 a.m. in a house at 34 Armadale Road, Remuera, owned by' Dr. J. Holdsworth, and occupied by Mrs. E. J". Adams. The flames were extinguished before they could spread. A chimney fire at a house in 25 Golf Road, One Tree Hill, was responsible for another call at 6.30 p.m. This house was occupied by Mr. W. H. Tingey. An hour later, the brigade was called to a new house at 39a St* Andrew’s Road, Epsom, occupied by Mr. T. S. Hickey, where shavings an A rubbish under the house had caught alight. A small outbreak occurred in thw wash-house of a two-storeyed house at |7B View Road, Mount Eden. No one ; was occupying the house at the time, : as new tenants were about to move in. A fire which had been lighted under j the copper had ignited the adjacent ! flooring. The fire had caused only. slight damage before it was ext in- - guished by the Mount Eden brigade, j A fire under the footpath in Wakefield Street shortly before 7 o’clock on Saturday evening was caused by th® fusing of an electric cable.
