COLLAPSE IN COURT
WIFE'S TALE OF HUSBAND’S ILL-TREATMENT “ALL RIGHT TILL DRUNK” Special to THE SUS PALMERSTON N„ Today. After giviug evidence against her husband, whom she alleged had been persistently cruel to her, Mrs. Dorothy Conn collapsed as she stepped from the witness-box in the Palmerston North Magistrate's Court this morning, and was carried sobbing from the court-room. Her fall was a heavy one, and although obviously hurt by it she recovered after receiving attention. “My husband is all right until he gets drink in him." she told the magistrate. "When he has, all that he has in him against me conies out. I would be quite satisfied if he would provide for the little ones. I am young and can work. All 1 want for myself is protection from the court. I don’t want to be molested by liim.” The magistrate suggested a separation order and so that inquiries could be made regarding defendant’s alleged ill-treatment of liis wife, ordered liim to be remanded in custody for a month. Bail was refused.
