FRANKLIN PARTY LOST ON ARCTIC QUEST FOUND BY AIRMEN Reed. 12.20 p.m. VANCOUVER, Friday. A message from Fort Me Murray, Alberta, says that after returning from a daring flight to the northern shore of King William Land, W. E. Gilbert, who piloted Major Burwash, the Canadian explorer, on his expedition, unfolded the details of finding the relics of the Franklin party, which was lost more than 80 years ago. The evidence showed that some of the men succumbed to scurvy and that others had starved. Numerous graves in orderly arrangement were found, indicating that the men had dropped off one by one and had been buried by their comrades. Bones and skeletons were found in rocky cairns that had been looted by Eskimos or disturbed by Arctic gales. No official documents were found. As the party flew over the north magnetic pole the compass needle dipped violently, proving the pole’s location.
