TRANSPORT BILL
INTRODUCTION WANTED THIS SESSION DEPUTATION TO MR. RANSOM Press Association WELLINGTON, Friday. A strong plea for the introduction of the Transport Bill this session was made to the Acting - Prime Minister, the Hon. E. A. Ransom, today, by a deputation representing motor unions, chambers of commerce, the Alotor Traders’ Association, the Alaster Carriers’ Association, motor-omnibus companies, and motor service proprietors. Mr. A. B. Knight, representing service car proprietors, said they were satisfied that co-ordination of all transport was essential to avoid waste, reckless competition, and undue use of the highways, and that proper legislation was necessary. Mr. Ransom said the matter would be referred to Cabinet. It had not been intended to bring down the Transport Bill this year, as it was regarded as contentious. The present was a difficult time to bring down such legislation. Air. Knight said it was not a party matter. Air. Ransom: We do not regard it as that, but the Government must stand behind any Bill it brings down. A member of th© deputation urged Air. Ransom to give a definite reply, but. ho declined to do so at that .stage.
