Supporting the star in the leadingman role is Gilbert Roland, sensational Latin star, who portrays the character ot' an Italian-American song writer. Others cast are John Wray. Lilyan j Tashman, Roscoe Karns and Mary j Doran. REFORM BALL A ball organised by the Auckland division of the New Zealand Political Reform League will be held in the Peter Pan Cabaret on October 2. As only a limited number of invitations are available, friends and supporters of the Reform League desiring invitations should make early application. SHOP ASSISTANTS’ DANCE The usual weekly dance of the Auckland Retail Shop Assistants’ Union Charity Club wil be held in the Scots Hall on Monday evening, and a very pleasant time is promised. The music is provided by the popular and talented ■Versatile Pirates Jazz Band and the floor ik ideal for dancing.
SUNDAY CONCERT AT CIVIC A splendid orchestral concert will be presented in the Civic Theatre on Sunday evening. Mr. Howard Moody will conduct the orchestra and items will be given by Miss Joan Laird (soprano), Mr. Rex Hart (tenor). Miss Ida Lockwood (violinist). Mr. Ewart Lyne (organist), and Mr. Kric Bell (pianist). A silent film. "The Circus of Life." a drama of lire in pre-war Russia, will be accompanied by suitable music.
