RIFLE SHOOTING
THAMES VALLEY CLUB From Our Own Correspondent MORRINSVILLE. Today. There was an attendance of 15 at the first annual meeting of the Thames Valley Defence Ritle Club at Morrinsville on Wednesday evening. The president. Mr. F. C. Kennedy, was in the chair. Owing to the illness of the secretary, Mr. C McDavitt, the balance sheet was not available, and was held over until a later meeting. Trophies have been won as follow: Coles’s trophy. Rifleman W. McDonald; Mr. Gummer’s trophy, president F C. Kennedy; Mr. Eclilin’s trophy, deputypresident A. Topham; Air. Iletlierington’s trophy. Rifleman K. W. Grigsby; Airs. Ellis’s trophy for women. Airs. E. Hitchman. Owing to the shortage of ammunition, the competition for the club championship and Mr. Gifford’s trophy were not completed. Tho following officers were elected: Patron. Mr. G. Howie: vice-patrons : Messrs. F. Lye_ and A. M Samuel. [ ALP. s. and W. McPherson; president. ! Mr. F. C Kennedy; deputy-presidents. Messrs. W. .1 Aitken. A Topham and Li. Ellis: secretary and treasurer. Air. .1. Panton; shooting committee Aiessrs. ; H. A Pirritt. W McDonald. J Fausett, K. Grigsbv. A Topham: handicapper. Mr A Topham It was stated that Mr. W. Butler had offered a gold medal i valued at £2 2s for the championship i of the club this vear. A vote of thanks was accorded Mr. Butler. Mr. Topham gave notice of motion to change the name of the club to the Morrinsville Defence Rifle Club. He said the club was a Alorrinsville institution. and as Alorrinsville had already been put on the map of sport by its footballers cricket, tennis and swimming, clubs. it would be a good thing to alter the name of the rifle club.
