LECTURE ON HALOES
A series of practical experiments to illustrate the physical causes of haloes was carried olil during a lecture on “Haloes” by Dr. R. Brown, before members of the Auckland Astronomical Society in the University science building last evening. The lecturer said that haloes were divisible into two types, those caused by diffraction of light waves, and those formed by ice crystals in the atmosphere. The formation of many of the more common types of haloes was studied. Particular reference was made to the haloes which appear round the moon.
