He commenced his racing education as a member of trainer A Hall’s Papatoetoe stable, but for soin® time bus been running out on bis owners' property. Thursday’* Work The work on the trucks yesterday went to show that with the use of the plough gallop most of the local horses are showing improvement. Simint Cupped over hall a mile very convincingly, his freedom of action being ♦•specially noticeable. The two-year-old Star Lap put in three furlongs just alter cantering half-way round. She is working well, and thickening up at the same time. This Sand star filly may be a good advertisement for her sire. Armenia and Indolent went out for a half-mile sprint. The latter got away slowly, but a good working gallop was registered by both. Glenison and Miss Albyn were sent three furlongs. run in 42 l-ssec. They finished together, but Glenison appeared to be sloping more freely than her companion. Master Latour and Black Maira started off from the three furlongs post: They were together throughout and finished in line in 42see. The former looks really well and is H>ing worked under the supervision of hit owner. Antique went very freely over a round, and is in great heart, considering *.he short time he has been in work. Slow work was allotted Town Bird and the Marble Arch—Amans Queen gelding.
On the Seene Early Te Aroha will be fairly well represented at the Avondale meeting, but local sportsmen are not at present unduly optimistic over any supposed rosy chances of victory. Considering, however, that track facilities during the winter have not been in any way complete, the horses that have gone to the fixture are forward in condition. Mr. P. A. Swney will be repressed by Volimond and Taumai. Both >av» been doing well on their home tracks, Taumai having furnished very solidly. J. H. Wallace left for the scene some days ago in order to give his charges, Lucky Alice and Lady Vane, the benefit of grass galloping. The LucullUß maro is looking well, and may trwne a come-back. Lady Vane is ia*t for a short run, and as she has shown consistency in her work, shou’d b* worthy of taking her place in the Avondale Stakes field. A. E. Cox left today with Miss Alhyn, Indolent and Black Maire. They are all looking well, and may get some °f the place money during the two •lays. This mentor will have nearly a week in which to give them the final gallops.
