THE LATEST IN BROADWAY The Auckland Meat Company, Ltd., has transferred its Newmarket branch to new premises in Broadway, a few doors from its old location The owners of the property, fully appreciating the high standard that A.M.C. endeavours always to maintain in handling a product so easily contaminated as meat, have carried out the company’s desires in their entirety and have built premises which in regard to hygiene and sanitation will satisfy the most fastidious. Every conceivable precaution has been taken to prevent the access of dirt or harmful bacteria, and in this respect the shop is far in advance of the requirements of the local authorities or the regulations under the Pure Foods Act. The entire walls, pickling tubs, and even the ceilings are tiled: shelves and stall board are of marble and floors of concrete, so that the whole of the shop may be easily cleansed by washing down. The very latest fittings and appliances for the scientific and better handling of meat have been installed by A.M.C., including an electric mincer, “Jim Vaughan” electric meat cutter, electric automatic refrigerating chamber and counter. The electric automatic refrigerating counter is something quite new to New Zealand, and enables meats to be kept in perfectly fresh condition, even in the hottest weather, while on show and in full view of the customer. This counter was not imported, but was made locally by Refrigerators, Limited, an Auckland company specialising in the construction of refrigerating chambers, showcases, etc. It is a magnificent piece of work, constructed of oak and many separate thicknesses of plate-glass and fitted with refrigerating coils, shelves, etc., and altogether is a very outstanding proof that local manufacturers have tradesmen fully capable of carrying out work demanding the utmost skill and the most exacting earn. —5.
