DOG GIVES ALARM

WARNS MISTRESS BY JUMPING ON BED BIRKENHEAD HOUSE GUTTED Her dog jumping on her bed when the house was on fire awakened Mrs. R. R. M. Crosse at about 11.30 o'clock last evening at her home in Glenfleld Road, Birkenhead. The building was completely gutted. Only the sleeping porch was ablaze when Mrs. Crosse awoke, but the flames spread quickly until the whole of the five-roomed house was burning. The Northcote brigade tried to overcome the outbreak, but the fire had too strong a hold. The house was gutted and none of the contents was saved. Mrs. Crosse, who escaped in her night atiire, was unable to rescue some valuable personal belongings. Good work by Mr. T. Halliday, who played a hose on au adjoining house until the brigade arrived saved it from destruction, but it was badly scorched and windows were broken.
