HEAVY IMPORTS DROP

COMMONWEALTH IS WORKING FOR TRADE BALANCE JULY EXPORTS UP SYDNEY, Tuesday. Australia’s overseas trade returns for July show that the imports, valued at £7,290,428, were £5,679,568, or 43.7 per cent., less than a year ago. The exports were valued at £7,247,751, which is an increase of £830,113, or 11.4 per cent., over those, of July, 1929. The reduction in imports, which only slightly exceeded the exports, is attributed to the revised tariff, high exchanges and the generally lessened purchasing power of the community.
