AFTER 75 YEARS

TABERNACLE CELEBRATIONS In celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Auckland Baptist Tabernacle, a special week of services, meetings and demonstrations was opened on Saturday evening with a preparatory devotional service. The church’s history was told in Saturday’s Sun. There were large congregations at both morning and evening services yesterday. The preacher at the morning service was the Rev. Charles Dallaston, of Dunedin, the oldest Baptist minister in New Zealand. The minister of the Tabernacle, the Rev. Joseph W. Kemp, conducted the evening service. In the afternoon a missionary demonstration was given by Sunday School and Bible Class scholars. Today’s celebrations will consist of a special thanksgiving service. A social tea and reunion of old members and friends will be held at five o’clock this evening, to be followed by a congregational praise meeting. Laier, reminiscences of the early days of the Tabernacle will be given by old members and greetings will be read from missionaries and absent friends. A musical festival by the Tabernacle Choir will be given tomorrow evening, and on Wednesday the juvenile congregation will give a special demonstration. “Baptist Night” will be celebrated on Thursday evening, the speakers being the Rev. J. J. North and the Rev. M. W. P. Lascelles. Mr. F. W. Gaze will give an address dealing with the growth of the Baptist denomination in Auckland. A special function for old members of the congregation will be held on Saturday afternoon, and evangelistic and young people’s services will be conducted by the Rev. Joseph W. Kemp next Sunday. The celebrations will conclude with baptismal and communion services next Monday.
