WATER FROM WAIKATO

BILL OPPOSED BY CITY COUNCIL “MOST ILL-ADVISED” Representatives of the Auckland City Council opposing the Auckland Provincial Water Board Bill will give evidence before the Local Bills Committee of the House of Representatives tomorrow. The town clerk, Mr. J. S. Brigham the city solicitor. Mr. J. Stanton, and the city engineer, Mr. J. S. Tyler, left for Wellington last evening, and the Deputy-Mayor, Mr. A. J. Entrican, will go South this evening. The Bill deals with the scheme to bring water from the Waikato River to Auckland, supplying the provincial towns en route. It was read for the first time in Parliament on August 1. The City Council decided to oppose the scheme on the ground that the creation of the board “would be most ill-advised and unnecessary.”
