‘WITH BYRD AT THE SOUTH POLE’ The screening of one of the most fascinating and unusual stories of true adventure, entitled “With Byrd at the South Pole,” is delighting the large audiences at the Civic Theatre. It has been effectively produced as one logical and convincing story throbbing with human interest. Intimate scenes in the lives of Byrd and his men have been faithfully depicted. There is that exciting nerve-tingling moment when one of the men is rescued from a yawning crevasse and the tragedy of Spy, the giant huskie team leader, who, lame and broken, persists in taking his place at the head of the team. Igloo, the little fox-terrier pet of Rear-Admiral Byrd, takes it upon herself to teach a lesson to one of the dignified, portly., white-vested penguins, whom she considers to be taking too much for granted, resulting in the penguin more than holding its own with the impetuous little “foxie.” The. drama, the heroism, the comedy, the brief fleeting moments of despair are all blended together into one stirring story. The photography is a work of art, and the results obtained by the two cameramen with the expedition are striking. Special care has been exercised in selecting short subjects to support the main feature, and these will include a singing cartoon entitled “A Hot Time in the Old Town Tonight;” two or three talkie comedies, a horoscope novelty, and, of course, the ever-popu-lar music.
