WORLD’S WELTER Tim FREEMAN BEATS THOMPSON NEW YORK, Saturday. In a boxing contest at Cleveland last evening Tommy Freeman (Cleveland defeated Young Jack Thompson (Oakland) on points, and won the world's welter-w eight championship. The figt: was of 15 rounds. The spectators thought Thompson had a margin of points in nine rounds! He showed masterly boxing skill, but the referee, Mr. Haley, reached his decision on Freeman’s aggressiveness and Thompson’s missing. Thompson floored Freeman in the second round for a count of six.
STRANGLER LEWIS 9EATEN
SYDNEY, Sunday. In one of the finest wrestling bouu seen here for a considerable time. Joe Stetcher last evening defeated Strangler Lewis on points.
NURMI’S NEW RECORD
STOCKHOLM, Saturday. Parvo Nurmi today ran 20 kilometres (about 12 2-smiles) in 64min 38 4-ssec, beating Sipila’s world’s record of 66min 29sec.
CRICKET IN LONDON
LONDON, Saturday. In a cricket match against the Marylebone Cricket Club’s South African team Lord Hawke’s XI. scored 305 for six wickets (Hobbs 52, Allen 77). In a match between a South of England team and Marylebone Cricket Club the South of England team made 214 (Lord Tennyson 82, M. J. Allom fivef* 1 43). Marylebone had made 112 for two wickets when stumps were drawn.
