TEACHERS’ DINNER
WOODFULL AND WALL GUESTS LONDON, Saturday. The National Union of Teachers gave a dinner in honour of Messrs. W. M. Woodfull and I. Wall, of the Australian cricket team, at a West End hotel. Mrs. Leas Manning, who presided, said they were interested to learn that Mr. Woodfull hoped his son would take up golf or some other sensible game. Mr. Woodfull paid a tribute to English hospitality and sportsmanship. He recalled the fears of 99 per cent, of the Australian cricket enthusiasts. Nevertheless the team had pulled together and regained the “Ashes." Mr. Wall saUl his ambition as a bowler had been to achieve style, by getting batsmen to pay more attention to him than to the ball. In fact, he had taken only 60 wickets and scored 100 runs. He suggested that if he had been as good a bowler as he was a batsman he would have done excellently.
