MOB DEFIES POLICE REVOLT IN INDIA United I'.A.—By Telegraph—Copyright Reed. 0.5 a.m. DELHI, Friday. An amazing situation has arisen in the Satara district, where over 4,000 jungle tribesmen, inflamed by Congress agitators, are in revolt, and are defying large forces of Government and armed police troops. A special battalion which left Poona to quell the disturbance found on arrival that the village of Bilashi was the centre of the agitation. Tribesmen had destroyed a large quantity of Government property and had hoisted the Congress flag over the temple and were worshipping it as a new Deity. More than 200 women encircled the temple and defied tlie police, whose approach was opposed by a mob of many thousands. The police retreated and are now awaiting reinforcements. BIG COTTON MERGER EFFORT TO RESTORE TRADE Reed. 10.20 a.m. DELHI, Friday. A scheme is being considered for the amalgamation of the principal cotton mills in Bombay, with the object of putting tlie industry on a firm foundation. An expert from Manchester is shortly coming to India, i In this connection 50 mills are likely to be included in the merger.
